Before Sunvado opened its doors in 2018, the farmers did not have access to an export market for their avocados. Most of the harvest was sold on the local market at very low prices. Sunvado set up the organic certification of the farmers, and they now receive an organic premium on top of an increased price.
We are currently looking for customers interested to collaboratively add Fairtrade certification and then Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC).
In 2023, xx farmers were trained, xxxx (update and numbers from GIZ projects)

One of our latest projects in Ethiopia was focused on planting new avocado trees where farmers had space, having planted about 75,000 seedlings at around 3,000 farmers. With our partner in this project Farmforce and the support of the Nordic Climate Facility , we trained field staff to create digital profiles for the farmers and their fields, so the development of the seedlings can be monitored and tracked. We are also collaborating with eEsti to explore how the farmers could claim carbon credits based on the carbon this new growth sequesters. Watch the video to learn more!
In 2023, xx waste was generated by Sunvado. Waste numbers (from ESG reporting): organic, non-organic, paper etc
Sunvado is looking into waste stream valorization - from creating new products from by-streams (like the pit of the avocado’s) to exploring options for biomass installation. A team of students from Hawassa University supports these explorations and calculations, helping us towards optimal energy solutions and circularity.
