We Strive To Minimize and Monitor Our Environmental Footprint From Source To Customer
We continuously monitor our offices and processing facilities' environmental footprint to reduce our carbon emissions, water use, and waste generation.
An excellent example of our efforts is implementing an ambitious waste reduction program by Crown of Holland, our organic cocoa processing facility in the Netherlands. The plant collects the cocoa beans' shells, which most cocoa processing facilities discard as a waste product, and sells them to local cattle farmers to supplement their animal feed. Besides the cocoa shells' reuse, The Crown separates used plastic and paper packaging materials for recycling. As a result of these measures, the processing facility does not waste any raw materials and sends minimal waste to landfill. To complement the waste-reducing processes, we Install solar panels on the roof of the facility to support the offices' electricity use.
Another example of our sustainable practices is our organic sesame processing facility in Ethiopia, Selet Hulling. This facility uses the dry-hulling method to process sesame seeds, which uses considerably less water than the traditional wet hulling. This alternative dry-hulling process helps minimize our water consumption in the facility and preserve this valuable resource.
