Tradin Organic has a large-scale coconut sourcing project in Indonesia. On the island of Java, coconut farmers harvest fresh coconuts which are then processed into organic coconut oil. Our Javan coconut farmers also harvest the nectar of the coconut flower, which is the basis for our organic coconut sugar.
We can supply organic coconut sugar straight from our sourcing projects in Java, Indonesia. Coconut sugar is made from the nectar of the coconut blossom which is boiled and reduced to a cake before being ground into sugar. The unique flavor profile of this product makes it a great alternative to cane/beet sugar. Next to a table sweetener, this product can be used to sweeten many products such as beverages, chocolate, and confectionery items.
In the lush forests of Java, our organic certified coconut farmers harvest coconut nectar gathered from the flower of the coconut tree. Our farmers take the nectar home where it is then boiled and reduced into sugar blocks. These blocks are sold to a local processing facility which finally processes the bricks into granulated organic coconut sugar. Our agronomists support the farmers with training and technical support. In addition, we provide quality management support to the processing facility, to help to ensure the high quality and food safety of the organic coconut sugar.
More than 1,200 farmers in Java are involved in the growing and harvesting of organic coconut nectar which is used for our coconut sugar. Women play a vital role in processing the coconut nectar into sugar bricks, providing a much needed income to women in the region. As a result of this opportunity for women's employment, many women have gone on to lead some of the coconut farmer organizations in the area. The income generated from coconut sugar production and the organic premium enables farmers to invest in their communities. In recent years, several projects were completed including the construction of several schools, mosques, roads and bridges.
In addition to our organic coconut sugar we also source organic coconut oil from Java, where almost 400 farmers are growing and harvesting coconuts using organic production methods. After harvest, the coconuts are brought to a local processing facility where they are processed into organic coconut oil. To ensure that our products are in line with the highest standards for quality, food safety and organic integrity, we run frequent test analyses on our organic coconut oil throughout the year.
