The latest developments in the EUDR landscape
On December 18, the EU parliament adopted an agreement to delay full enforcement of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by 12 months. The delay shifts the compliance deadline to 30 December 2025.
To anticipate and comply with its requirements, Tradin Organic has been proactive throughout the year. To leverage the newest software and expertise for deforestation analysis and due diligence, we partnered with Osapiens, a comprehensive due diligence platform. Reflecting our commitment to sustainability and regulatory adherence we’ve already updated several internal procedures and have continuously engaged our suppliers to secure necessary data and ensure compliance with EUDR mandates.
A shift in timelines
In October, the EUDR journey took an unexpected turn when the European Commission proposed a 12-month "phase-in period”. The proposal introduced a wave of regulatory uncertainty and ambiguity impacting the industry widely. Finally, on December 18, the EU parliament formally adopted an agreement to delay full enforcement of the new regulation by 12 months. This adjusted timeline allows organizations throughout the supply chain more time to implement necessary changes.
Indeed, we’ve seen the volatility of the regulatory process and the time pressure leading to a divergence of efforts among various stakeholders in the supply chain, each interpreting and preparing for the evolving requirements differently, and the extended phase-in period now provides us with an opportunity to harmonize efforts, refine the systems, and make final adjustments to the due diligence processes.
Moving forward
The adjusted timeline provides Tradin Organic with a valuable opportunity to address this fragmentation, and we are now targeting the first quarter of 2025 for rolling out our due diligence systems. This approach ensures not only compliance but also alignment with suppliers and partners, fostering a cohesive and effective strategy for fulfilling our deforestation-free sourcing commitments.
