Tradin Organic is proud to share the participation of prominent Dutch investor Invest International in Organic Development Finance (ODF) with a €10 million debt facility.

Initiated by Tradin Organic as a Dutch Foundation in 2020, ODF has already built a portfolio of 14 transactions with 8 companies. This vital funding will further expand ODF’s capacity to provide fair-priced, much-needed working capital loans to organic-focused small and medium-sized enterprises in emerging markets. These companies play a crucial role in scaling sustainable, organic agriculture and linking smallholder farmers to global markets.

With the establishment of ODF, supported by USAID West African Trade and Investment Hub and GIZ, Germany’s main development agency, Tradin Organic executed on its vision of adding value in its supply chains by creating a truly market-driven financing instrument, to address the finance gap faced by many organic companies in developing countries by opening up access to capital and supporting their growth and innovation. This contributes to the development of local communities; economically, socially and environmentally, and leads to a more resilient supply chain.

Supporting Growth and Innovation in emerging markets

Tradin Organic has been actively promoting global organic agriculture and the sustainable development of organic value chains since the 1980s. Organic agricultural practices improve soil health and help increase biodiversity, and the production of organic natural products serves as a catalyst for sustainable economic and ecological development deep into the food chains, stimulating the development of innovative, regenerative and resilient farming systems[i].

With the funding from Invest International, ODF can now further scale up its investments, connecting more organic suppliers to appropriate financing, empowering them to sustainably improve their operations. In addition, Invest International’s participation serves as a model to attract additional impact investors, showcasing how market-driven financing, based on collaboration and synergy, can multiply sustainable development efforts.
