Amsterdam, January 26, 2026 – The International Day of Clean Energy
To celebrate the International Day of Clean Energy, we’re excited to share that all our processing facilities in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Ethiopia are now using 100% renewable electricity. While other energy sources are still in use, this achievement marks a major step forward in reducing the carbon footprint of some of our key product lines, including cocoa, sunflower oil, and avocado oil.
Our transition combines solar, wind, hydro, and biomass energy, sourced through a mix of direct purchasing, on-site generation, and Certificates of Origin where direct sourcing isn’t yet possible.
Anne Floor van Dalfsen, Global Sustainability Manager, explains:
“This is a great step in strengthening the foundation of our sustainability strategy, our Nature Positive Plan. Most of our positive impact is achieved in origin, where we work with farmers to scale regenerative, organic practices that boost biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and climate resilience. But we also want to offer customers a supply chain that aligns with those values, enabling brands and retailers with data and stories that strengthen their value proposition to consumers. True progress requires collaboration, but then we can all harvest the fruits of that.”
Michiel Wolthuis, Global Plant Operations Manager, adds:
“Our strategy in renewable electricity is to produce as much as we can ourselves. The remainder is purchased from 3rd party providers. We are further investigating how to become fully CO₂ neutral at our sites as well. This is not an easy task, but we see it as part of future-proofing our factories, and we’re proud of the steps we’re currently taking”.
This milestone puts us ahead of the Acomo Group’s 2030 target for renewable electricity use, which forms part of our broader sustainability commitments under CSRD reporting.
By switching to 100% renewable electricity, we’re continuing to build a more sustainable, transparent, and future-proof organic supply chain, from farmer to finished ingredient.
