TOGO - ORGANIC SOY BEANS

TOGO - ORGANIC SOY BEANS

Tradin Organic collaborates with local partners in Togo to supply high-quality, rich organic soy beans that are produced sustainably. Soy bean is a versatile ingredient, with applications ranging from animal feed, vegan meat substitutes, to protein powder, soy sauce or even oil.

Organic Soy Beans

Organic Soy Beans

Our soy beans are grown with care and expertise by thousands of small holder farmers, located in the rural area of central Togo, the  number one exporter of organic soy beans to Europe. The beans are rich and hold organic certification.

The beans are being produced in an intercropped, sustainable system that helps assuring healthy soil for future generations, and thus, going beyond organic.

A Sustainable Source of Organic Soy Beans

A Sustainable Source of Organic Soy Beans

In 2020, Tradin Organic began its collaboration with a local partner in Togo who works closely with rural populations. The farmers cultivate soy as both a cash and subsistence crop and they receive training, organic inputs and seeds on credit to prepare for the season. Furthermore, where necessary, farmers receive pre-financing through a microfinance pilot project. As soy is intercropped with a variety of other crops, it is not just contributing to food security and yield improvements, but also incentivizes farmers not to expand into forested land. A strict monitoring system including georeferencing, regular inspections and trainings throughout the year ensures environmental protection and prevents deforestation.

Full Traceability and High Quality: From Farm to Factory to Customer

Full Traceability and High Quality: From Farm to Factory to Customer

A well-trained local team of internal control officers regularly visits and assists the  farmers to ensure full control and traceability at farm level throughout the year. Each field is georeferenced and carefully administered.

After harvesting the soybeans, farmers leave the beans in the field to dry on canvas sheets before threshing either with sticks or using threshing machines before they are put into dedicated organic bags provided by our partner The beans are inspected by our partners’ team at village warehouses upon purchase, before being transported to the warehouse in Lomé, where several additional quality controls and cleaning procedures guarantee the export of the high quality beans to Europe.

The Stories behind the Soy

The Stories behind the Soy

With their joyful smiles, Patakou, Tawelessi, and Tchangaï are three farmers living in the same community and farming the fields together to provide a high-quality product that benefits the soil and their families. With the support of our local partner, the farmers started farming organic soy around 4 years ago. The collaboration and training have resulted in considerably increased yields of soy, but also other subsistence crops. The farmers are now consciously applying good agricultural practices such as crop rotation, respecting planting distances and correct weeding. With organic, Patakou, Tawelessi, and Tchangaï can benefit from fair prices and stable market access and see a future in farming on the fields that have been cultivated by their families for centuries.

Thanks to them and many more, Tradin provides organic-certified soy.
