Today is World Soil Day! World Soil Day is held every year on the 5th of December. The aim of Word Soil Day is draw attention to the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.
This year, the theme of World Soil Day is ‘Stop Soil Pollution’. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization recognizes that “1/3 of our global soils are already degraded, yet we risk losing more due to this hidden danger. Soil pollution can be invisible and seems far away but everyone, everywhere is affected.”
We want to use this year’s World Soil Day to recognize the crucial work of our organic farmers. These dedicated people work hard every day to produce our food, without using synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Their work is essential to produce food in a way that does not pollute our soils.
You can help us spread the word by using the hastag #StopSoilPollution on social media. You can also visit the FAO Website for more information.
